Ever since the company was founded in 1935, Aerobord and it's forerunner Southern Chemicals has been at the forefront of innovation in the field of energy conservation.

Shortly after the plant was founded a hydroectric generator was installed on the Askeaton site, the energy harnessed from the river Deel provided an electrical supply long before the plant was connected to the National grid.

We continue to harness the power of nature today, our current water turbine was installed in 1980 by Newmills Hydro and continues to supply sustainable electricity to the manufacturing plant when required or exported to the grid. During peak river flow times the turbine can generate close to 300kW. The turbine is currently being rebuilt ahead of the 2008/2009 generating season.
