Aerobord traces it’s roots back to 1935 with the foundation of Southern Chemicals to produce hydrated Lime for the building industry in Askeaton, Co. Limerick. In 1958 the company commenced production of Expanded Polystyrene Insulation (EPS).
In 1978 the Company became a wholly owned subsidiary of CRH Plc, an international leader in building materials, building products and distribution with headquarters in Dublin, Ireland...
In 1980 the Company acquired another EPS Insulation manufacturer, Aircell Limited, Loch Gowna, Co Cavan. Aircell has built on it's reputation for unrivaled service and quality to become a leading name in Irish Insulation today.
In November 1995 the company name was changed to Aerobord Limited as the name Southern Chemicals Limited no longer reflected the nature of the Company's business.
